Copper Box

Copper Box, a fun and entertaining band that dances in the crossroads of Zydeco, blues, jazz, and Tex-Mex, and rock, will be appearing at ___(venue/festival)___ on ___(date)____ at ___(time)___.  Join us as we celebrate 10 years of Copper Box as we listen to them play many of their original tunes as well as some fun covers…and if you feel like dancing, we have room for that too!  Tickets will be available at the door.  For more information, visit www.copperboxsite.com.

There's a thread connecting the music of Esteban Jordan (the Jimi Hendrix of the Tejano accordion) Doug Sahm (of the Texas Tornados), the classic roots rock of CCR, the Latin-rock wave of Los Lobos, and the Zydeco power of the late Clifton Chenier. Copper Box defines that thread and puts it together in a genre-bending celebration that channels a great blend of an accordion-fueled sound that is no novelty act.  Their style is like a Texas Tornado that went through New Orleans and ripping up the Midwest!”

Danny Jerabek, received his first 3-row button accordion from his grandfather when he was 9 years of age and self-taught himself how to play a few Czech and German songs for his family.  Later inspired by Don Cialkoszewski and the accordion legend, Steve "Esteban" Jordan, Danny took his accordion playing to another level.  Danny tastefully puts the accordion into a diverse range of music from jazz to rock and everything in between, which is the defining sound of Copper Box.  Many people have said, “I don’t care for the accordion (button box), but I like how he plays it.”

The four-piece group also features multi-instrumentalist, Michelle Jerabek on saxophones, guitars, flute, washboard, and vocals, Kevin Junemann on bass and ukelele, and Jason Van Ryzin on drums and percussion.

Throughout the 10 years of Copper Box, the band has counted 1199 shows in 16 states, 3 vans, 2 trailers, 7 full time musicians, 6 CDs, 1 DVD, and countless miles of the road.

“We’ve been through some good times with the band, and like most bands experiencing the music business and “life on the road”, there are some not-so-good times.  However, we try to stay optimistic about the situation we are in.  We consider ourselves very fortunate to be playing music for a living, because we love it.  One of the hardest things to do as a working band, is to keep the team together---and it definitely is a team effort!  The dedication of a group is really important, because playing over 140 shows a year requires discipline, a sense of humor, and sacrifice...not to mention the family life, or should I say lack of family life sometimes.  It’s a balancing act!”  -Michelle Jerabek

Danny knew at an early age that performing and playing the accordion was what he wanted to do.  But his high school councelor tried to direct him to other careers, like music therapy and music education, but it wasn’t for him.  He settled on going to tech school for band instrument repair and also tunes button accordions, which comes in handy---especially if you’ve seen Danny play the button box!  He’s a wild child on stage!  Michelle grew up in a musical family as well, but when she decided to put her college degree aside and perform music for a career, her family was not thrilled.  Against many odds, this group takes one day at a time and has been able to persevere over many obstacles, so far.

Performing over 140 shows a year for Mardi Gras, Oktoberfests, music festivals, performing art centers, and community concerts throughout the US, Copper Box has been racking up the miles and gaining momentum as a new emerging artist one show at a time.  They have shared the main stage at festivals across the nation with artists like, The Doobie Brothers, Little River Band, Buckwheat Zydeco, Little Feat, Little Big Town, Little Texas, Peter Frampton, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Lou Gramm, Marcia Ball, C.J. Chenier, and W.C. Clark.

As one music journalist commented, "(Copper Box)...as refreshing as a cool spring breeze blowing new life into a stuffy room...worth checking out!"

Wisconsin Blues Society describes Copper Box as “…one of the favorites of the Fox Valley Blues Festival 2004. This hot Zydeco Swamp/Blues Rock outfit with a great baritone and tenor sax gal and a hot accordion man. This group cooks and swings with some of the best Zydeco-influenced groups I’ve seen anywhere in the country.”
